Fully bootstrapped, owning its own data centers, and running on 100% renewable energy, it represents a rare combination of technical excellence, pricing integrity, and European data sovereignty that few competitors can match. For developers, startups, and technical teams for whom raw price-performance and GDPR compliance matter, Hetzner has long been the default answer — and it largely remains so even after the significant April 2026 price increases of 30–37% across the portfolio.

The technical product is genuinely outstanding. NVMe SSD storage across all tiers, 20 TB of included traffic at EU locations, ARM64 (Ampere Altra) instances for energy-efficient workloads, a free Kubernetes control plane, an extensive API, and the legendary Server Auction for bare-metal deals at near-unbeatable prices all make Hetzner's infrastructure hard to fault on pure merit. ISO 27001 certification and strict GDPR compliance round out a security and compliance posture appropriate for European business customers.

The weaknesses are consistent and largely unchanged. Account verification rejects legitimate users without explanation — a recurring complaint. There is no live chat, the website navigation is notoriously confusing, and support quality on non-hardware issues can be slow. The referral program pays only platform credits, not cash, making it weak for affiliates and content creators. The limited global footprint (Germany, Finland, two US locations, Singapore) and high Singapore traffic overage costs are meaningful constraints for globally distributed applications.
